I struggled for 6-12 months trying to make money with affiliate marketing when I first got started with affiliate marketing. I was very young and I had a bit of cash, so stupidly I decided to start my affiliate marketing off using Google Adwords and linking to Clickbank products as an affiliate (back in the day when such promotional techniques were allowed). Ouch! Boy did it hurt! I spent a couple hundred dollars, made just under 100 dollars back and as a result, I made a net loss of just over $100. So I went away and learnt about how to make money using Article marketing, SEO, video and selling information products, and still, nothing I did worked for me.

Now if you are like me, and have suffered the same frustration, then I have written this article for you. I have written this article because it is the exact kind of article I would have loved to have read when I was starting out in affiliate marketing, because I am going to share with you the number 1 tip and piece of advice that helped me turn things around and start profiting with my online marketing. I am confident that if you read it, understand it and use this tip you will be able to do exactly the same, and get a step-closer to replacing your day-job with a solid affiliate income. So lets get right into it.

What I am about to share with you is not some killer technique that you can apply to all of your affiliate campaigns to help you make lots of money. It is not some secret traffic source and it is not a tip to help convert more of your visitors into buyers. This tip is much more than that. It is a business tip, that when applied can dramatically improve your results and help you make better decisions, make more money, and also do it a lot faster. In order for it to work you must do 2 things.

1) You need to be approaching affiliate marketing like a business. If you do not approach it as a business, this tip is not going to do you much good. I totally understand that a lot of you reading this article might do your affiliate marketing in your spare time, but that doesn't mean it can't be a business.

2) You need to remind yourself of this tip everyday in order for it to be effective. Write it down, or write down a summary of it on a post-it note and stick it some where you will see it every day. Perhaps on your desk, on your wall, or on the side of your computer monitor.

With all that said, here is the tip:

Be Your Own Guru.

When I got started affiliate marketing, I would jump from system to system. If I got something wrong, I'd spend hours searching forums and blogs looking for some one to tell me what I had done wrong, and how I could do it right. I took no action, and no responsibility for what I was doing. I was excellent at soaking up information like a sponge, but I never did anything with it, I never got any results and I never made any money.

Get a system, and work on it everyday. Test and tweak things, and look at YOUR OWN results and don't rely on people on blogs and forums to find and give you all the answers you are looking for. Those people will never give you the answers you need, and if they do, how do you know they are not lying just to sell you another information product? Learn from your own actions, results and experiences. I promise you by doing this and not jumping from one shiny info-product to another, you will succeed. It will take a little time, and some consistent action, but you can and will do it.
